New Bathroom
We finally have our new bathroom completed. As with most home improvement projects, it took longer than we anticipated.
Here are the before shots. It looks nicer in pictures than it did up close.
The tub was not sealed very well, the shower was just a mixer from the taps (that never had an even temperature for long), and you had to be very careful where you pointed the water because the door was not very long and the worst sealed part was at the taps, so you could not leave it on the holder and stand under it without causing a flood under the tub (and sometimes into the shop below us).
It didn't make bath time very fun.
Here are the during shots.
We had to move out of the house twice during construction. Andy and I both became extremely ill and we are half convinced it was something in the plumbing or inside the wall.
The good news is that the plumbing was replaced, the wall and floor both sealed so whatever demon it was, is now banished.
Here are some after shots.
One is from inside the shower as that gave the best view of the other wall.
The new shower is wonderful and even has a misty steam option. The challenge now is to force ourselves to get out before too much water and energy is wasted.
Kitty loves the shower as well because he is a freak water cat. I have posted a picture on his blog as well.

It looks great! The process is aggravating, but once it's done it's really worth it.
"That's your loo then..."
You know, I think what made you sick, is mold and mildew. As you mention the leak problem it had before the repair/renovation--that tells me right there it's likely mold. I know at work, after Hurricane Katrina and Wilma came through (about 1 month apart) we had the same problem at work. Causing respiratory problems, etc. But it's gotta be a relief to have it all done!
Karl, we had some really nasty stuff come out of the wall, as out of the toilet area and the radiator. We were, as they say here, 'chuckin it oot both ends' for about 3 days each. I have not been that sick for a very, very long time. Not a good way to be when you have no shower or tub and a temporary toilet. It makes you appreciate this great gift of indoor plumbing.
wow. I'd almost definitely say it's mold. Granted I didn't get that sick, thankfully, when we all were stuck in the downstairs break room together. After three days, we were all hacking and coughing because the a/c system was recycling the air throughout the building..as the carpet along the entire front wall of the building got soaked. And of course once we moved back upstairs, it was still so gross, the smelly "funk" in the air. Thought I was going to need the doctor, but after they steam cleaned everything, it got a lot better (and once all the a/c's got fixed too).
