Summer Movie Review
Hi folks! We have seen some movies this summer, but I have yet to review any of them.
First, we saw the latest Harry Potter. Though I have now read several of the books, I have yet to read this one. The fun part is that I have read the two books after this one, so my view is a bit strange. They did a very good job of getting the key story elements in that may be important to future movies. It could use more Snape. But, then every Harry Potter book and movie could use more Snape. Rating: Snapilicious. Acrio Half-Blood Prince!
Second, we saw Transformers. I would not really want to say 'robots in disguise', nor even 'crap in disguise'...because it was not in disguise. The special effects aside, well, there is actually nothing left once those are aside. Here's the plot: robot planet loses power source cube, it crashes on earth and then good and evil robots fight over it. I had a hard time even watching what was going on during the fight scenes until my husband pointed out that the colorful robots are the good ones. I should have walked out when I saw that the movie was co-produced by Hasbro ( a toy company). Rating: Craptacular.
Next, (actually it was before Harry Potter, but just go with it), we saw Shrek III. I enjoyed it, but it really should have gone straight to DVD like the rest of the Disney animation sequels. It tied things up nicely, but it was lacking the referential humour that made the first two so enjoyable. The soundtrack was not as good either. Rating: 2.5 flying donkey dragon babies.
Here is a bonus book review for the last Harry Potter book. I shall not give anything away. I just want to say that 'I knew it! I was right!!!! I picked the true hero Waaaay back. so there.'
No idea what is in the next blog. But, as a reminder, I change the song and video on the myspace page at least once per week. www.myspace.com/hellokimie
Cheers, Kimberly

<rant> Of course the Transformers movie was going to be crap! What's next, My Little Pony? Huckleberry Hound? They're really getting desperate for movie ideas. </rant>
Well, I absolutely loved the Simpsons' Movie. And if you haven't seen it--sit through the end credits. We had a theater full of folks who all seemed to love it as much as we did. As for songs, honestly I think it may have detracted from the film, unless they found some extra funny way of inserting a muscial number...but then, they've done those to death on the show. I was laughing so hard I have to see it a 2nd time just to catch the followup comments after the jokes because I couldnt hear what they were saying. And it's been a very long time since I've experienced that. As for Dr. Nick--I dunno...I guess it depends on if they consider the film part of the "timeline" of the series. But to quote Dr Nick: "See that smudge (on an x-ray) that looks like my finger? Noooo, that's trauma!!"
Didn't see Shrek and will likely never see Harry Potter (never been a big fantasy fan, although I do love Lord of the Rings...but then Tolkien was a professor of Anglo-Saxon literature...and the sheer depth of his work is astounding in itself). As for the Transformers...I saw the ads for it, laughed and had to admit it actually "looked okay" but I wasn't going to shell out the ticket price for it. Especially since I couldn't stomach the whole Transformers stuff when it first came out. Crap-tacular I am sure. Once again Hollywood spends 100 million on special effects and 10 dollars on the plot.
LOL, I dunno about Huckleberry Hound, but what about Snagglepuss? Surely he could be in "The Mark Foley Story". "Did I send dirty instant messages to underage congressional pages??!! Exit, stage right even!!!"
Oh, how about Hong Kong Phooey. I would totally see that. They also have come out with a movies about Bratz, which are basically modern barbies. Definitely Crapfabulistico. But then again, you may be a perv that likes to oogle teenage girls, D, so perhaps you should see it. LOL>
G Karlie, I really did like it and will definitely buy The Simpsons movie because it is one of those things that one has to watch several times to get all the jokes and see everything. I think my audience let me down. I did wait a couple of weeks to see it and went on discount night during the week. The first weekend crowds are murder to endure, but usually are the best people to see it with. There is also a bit of general American knowledge and cultural reference that is lost to the audience here. I don't get the new episodes anymore and have not for a while because only one network that is owned by a rival broadband couple owns the rights and no one shows the new ones. So, I am majorly behind in the plots. Did something happen to GK willie? he was not really in the film...I don't think...???
The kids loved the Transformer movie. Then again they are 8 and 6 year old boys. So there you go.
I agree with you Kim, there is never enough Snape in the movies. Which is why there is a thriving Snape fanfic community. Which is basically porn. So there you go.
Sept, snape porn eh? that would explain some of the 'art' that I have seen. I don't see snape as having any muscles and certainly not white teeth. but, then again it IS fantasy. not my fantasy mind you, but someones. LOL.
Snape porn?
Like "Snapes on a Plane"???
Don't forget the cheesy soundtrack...you know, the one that sounds like a 1970's cop show combined with the tune programmed as "sample" in cheap Casio keyboards, LOL
